Song for your Pet: About Us

From the Founder, Tanya Pluth

The founding of “Song for your Pet” occurred after my long-term pet companion, Shadow, and I went through the process of his aging and death. During the process, I learned a lot about both the intense emotional connection I felt with him, and the immense responsibility I felt around helping to support and facilitate his end of life experience.
During the last year of Shadow's life, I talked with many people who had lost beloved pets, and I heard the pain of their loss in the stories they told. Time and again, I heard people discuss the hardship of the process. From wondering aloud whether they had “made the right choice,” to expressing a desire to have done things differently, I found that people often struggled with a sense of feeling unresolved about their pet’s end of life experience. Hearing these experiences, I felt a deep compassion for these stories of loss, and wondered how I could create an experience of my own that channeled the love and confidence I felt in connection with Shadow.

For many years, I have been studying energetic and shamanic forms of healing. As Shadow continued to struggle during his last year, I often found myself connecting with him using the tools and skills I'd been learning through my studies. As the end of his life neared, I found myself engaging in daily ritual with Shadow, communicating with him about his preferences, establishing a clear heart connection, and exchanging the spiritual and emotional gifts that we each offered. In the end, I found myself creating an intentional, emotionally grounded and spiritually conscious end of life process with my beloved pet companion, during and after the time of his death.

After creating a ceremony that involved helping to comfort Shadow and his spirit as he crossed over, within one month’s time, a family member asked me to help create a similar ceremony for her pet. Through conversations with friends and family members, I recognized a need in the community for support and ceremony around the death of our beloved pets.

For many years, I have been looking for a way to channel my skills in energetic healing and animal communication. I find working with animals and humans rewarding and fulfilling.
